Pick a Word for 2021 – Here’s to a brighter, healthier new year!
Got a WOTY? Every new year, for the last 10 or so, I have chosen a ‘Word of the Year’ – a WOTY, to focus on. Different than setting a specific goal, having a word that hovers overhead, reminds me of the path I want to be on, helps me make decisions a bit easier and allows me to say ‘yes’ at the right times and ‘no’ at the right times.

Some of my past words have been: Lifestyle, Grow, Rejoice, Scrabble, Rewire, Healthy, Vision, What if… and one of my favourites, Delight. In the year of Delight, I wrote down something (literally every day) that I took delight in (you can see a sample list here), what a game-changer!

Some people swear by 3 words, or a phrase for the year, which I almost did this year, but after careful consideration, I whittled it back down to one word.

And my Word of the Year for 2021 is, drum roll, please… Vitality! Defined as the state of being strong and active; energy; present in all living things. My connotation being – bringing and receiving life and energy into/from all areas of my life, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and professionally. When we can visit again, you may see this word on sticky notes around my home, in dry erase marker on my bathroom mirror, written out in Scrabble letters on my table, secured with magnets on my fridge.

When I see the word Vitality, it will be my cue to remind me to look after myself and be the best I can, to serve the world as well as I can. I’m going to try to write the word often, as well. I haven’t done that before, but I figure it can’t hurt!
I love that word, it makes me smile, it makes me feel happy, it makes me feel alive. But…If I am going to say ‘Yes’ to Vitality (yes, with a capital!), what will I have to say no to this year?
Maybe you would like to choose a word for the year, or the month, or the week or for today? Maybe you wouldn’t, idk?
If your word gets you excited, happy, jazzed or something at least vaguely positive, if your word is one that you will want to say capital ‘Yes‘ to, ask yourself also what you will be invited to say ‘No‘ to this year to bring your word to life.
I know that my word will help me focus and I suspect 2021 will benefit from a little more focus and a lot more vitality!
What word jazzes you up?  I’d love for you to share it with me.
Happier New Year, cheering for you as always, Steph  : )
